A Case of the Moody Mondays

How do you cure a terrible mood?

This guy, Bob Marley, and a glass of wine. Seriously, this is how dogs help you live a better life. One "welcome home" greeting and it doesn't make sense to be upset any more. I suggest everyone get a dog to help clear your sky of those grey clouds. And then dance around to some Bob Marley.

great.

The Giving Tree

I've been toying with the idea of getting this illustration tattooed on me for a while now. It's from Shel Silverstein's book THE GIVING TREE. I've always loved that book and it's message of unconditional love. It reminds me of my mother, and when I told her it would be a sort of "mom" tattoo she said, " i wish you would just hang that on your wall instead. Why does it have to be a tattoo?"  Oh, moms.

Up There

"Mastering the lost art of hand-painted advertising can take years, and with the age old tradition steadily dying out, today’s apprentices may have no spaces or clients left…. It’s this touching story of art, expertise and craftsmanship that is so beautifully captured in the short film ‘Up There‘, created as part of a campaign for Stella – The Ritual Project– that celebrates the “meticulous ceremony that goes into pouring a perfect glass of lager”….. "

Puppy Playdate

Today my friend David and I took our dogs to the park to have some romp-around time. He has the best dog ever and I'm so jealous.

The view of Cincinnati from the park.

Saying "hello."

(awkward photo)
Tuckered out and napping between my legs while I work/watch Arrested Development.

My book is coming along pretty nicely. I need to do some designing later today and I feel really bleh about it. Perhaps while watching I am Legend. I got it a few days ago and still have not had the chance to watch it.

Garment Direction

I went to Joseph Beth today to get some distractions from school work.

I also started reading the "Sookie Stackhouse" series. I burned through the first two chapters and it's pretty entertaining. I was worried that it was going to be classic damsel is in love and in danger, but Sookie is pretty badass and violent at times which is great. Ha.

Recreational reading is great because a) it's a great way to escape, b) sometimes you stumble on things that can really help you, and c) it motivates me to do my work. Inward dialogue with myself: "okay, so I just spend that time reading for no reason. Now it's time to be productive so I can read more later."

Basically what I'm trying to say is I love reading.

Here's an InDesign screen shot of a potential silhouette-direction page out of my book, which also reveals that I have way too many programs open at once. Jeez.

Burberry sure knows how to drape clothing, eh? I'm aiming for some haphazard layering, complex draping, layers of raw edges, and a kind of slip-nightgowny feel of sheer beautifulness. Will I be able to pull it off? Only time will tell.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings "Tell Me"

I've just started listening to this great band, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, and I'm already hooked. I love it's nostalgic Motown sound. Even their videos have the feel of the Motown Era. They're playing at Southgate House on May 17. I will absolutely be there to boogie down to some sweet beats.

trip down memory lane

wear and tear

I'm getting tired of wearing these dresses. I need to shed this persona. I feel like every day I'm putting on the same attitude. The days are running together. I need a new perspective!

I'm not sure what else will happen to them, though that is the point of the experiment. I want to move on to other garments; see where they crease, how they lose shape, how hems roll, etc. I think other silhouettes will give more insight.

... I should have bought something that was really tight. Maybe Trish will let me borrow something.

Some things

What I've been listening to:
Zero 7
Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons
Michael Jackson
Morning Benders
Glen Hansard
Jackson Browne

Day Four

Mmm... grape tomatoes.

It's been raining all day. Yesterday our lawn sprouted dandelions all over it; the puffy kind. I wanted to take a picture, but alas they are gone. Here today, gone tomorrow.

Day Three

Last night at Northside Tavern some dude approached me and said, "That is a very pretty dress. I don't think you should ever take it off." ...Coincidence????

The dress is losing it's shape; it's beginning to look like a mu-mu. The slip just keeps breaking. The straps are so messed up that I can't even tie them in knots. The slightest amount of tension breaks them. I've resorted to sewing the slip to my bra. I would go without it but a) not the point of the experiment, and b) this dress is see-through.

I've got some nice tears though! Charlie grabbed the hem of the slip and the lace basically fell off. Ha. This poor slip will disintegrate before the week is up (I hope).

And no, I don't smell. I still bathe regularly; I'm not an animal.
